What’s the proper massage to give a fibromyalgia victim?

I’m getting my mother, who has had fibromyalgia for years, a back massage as a gift, but I’m confused as to which one to get.
The types I’ve seen so far are: deep tissue, swedish, and relaxation.
If you could help me I’d appreciate it… <3
i don’t know i am not a victim
i am a person with fms
but i don’t liekmasagse at all
a lto of peopel do say it helps–buyt they might noty have real fms
None. Massage will make the area hurt worse.
Justme and Henry are absolutely correct. Do not get your mother a massage as a gift. It will be very painful during the massage and she will feel much worse for a week after. Get her a nice facial instead.
Instead of a massage try a Bowen treatment. See if there is a practitioner in your area. Sometimes the results are amazing.http://bowendirectory.com/ You can check out “Bowen Therapy” on You Tube
I became a massage therapist because I have friends with Fibromyalgia. Many of my clients are FMS patients. Massage is excellent for this condition because it stimulates the release of endorphins and seretonins that will over ride Substance P (the neurotransmitter for pain), leaving them with less pain.
The key for massage not to hurt for FMS clients is for the massage to be around 50 minutes long and light pressure. I would recommend finding a therapist that knows how to work with Fibromyalgia…if you can’t find one, then send her for a 30 minute upper body Swedish massage.
I would have her get just a basic swedish relaxation massage if you want her to enjoy the session. Too deep of work, especially the first time, can be overstimulating and painful. Some fibro patients respond well to deeper pressure and/or aggressive assisted stretching however, there are typically a few days of uncomfortable soreness or pain before it ever feels any better. For those who do get relief from massage, they are willing to put up with a day or two of additional soreness to get the relief that follows. Depending on her severity of symptoms and overall general health, she should enjoy a light general massage without much concern.
